As of April 2008, we are no longer accepting applications for the Early Childhood Education Program. For students wishing to explore this career field, you may complete these requirements through a Liberal Arts degree that will also allow transfer to a four-year college and a teaching certificate. For further information, call the Admissions Office at (716) 827-2545.
Before you make a college selection, you may want to know about some of the UNIQUE features of Trocaire’s Early Childhood Education Program. Did you know that the Early Childhood Education Program...
- has a 100% placement rate for four (4) consecutive years
- graduates are employed as directors, head teachers, teachers, and teacher assistants in a variety of settings. Employment of child care workers is projected to increase as fast as the average for all occupations through the year 2012
- has a strong curriculum that correlates courses in Liberal Arts and Early Childhood. Field trips and guest speakers enhance early childhood classroom instruction
- provides students the opportunity to attend classes on a full-time or part-time basis
- is the ONLY program that has a field experience component each semester totaling 300 hours of contact with children. This first-hand experience gives students the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of programs and to a diverse population of children
- is the ONLY program that has as Infant and Toddler course that has a field experience component. This first-hand experience in an infant room and toddler room complements classroom instruction
- provides qualified BOCES graduates (Harkness, Potter Road, Ken-Ton, Allegany, Belmont & Cattaraugus) the opportunity to receive advanced credit for education courses
- provides qualified Academy of Education graduates from West Seneca East and West Seneca West High Schools the opportunity to receive advanced credit for education courses
- provides qualified Teacher Academy graduates from Hamburg High School the opportunity to receive advanced credit for an education course
- transfers well. We have several articulation agreements with four year colleges in the areas of Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education
The Teachers of Tomorrow Club is expressly for Early Childhood Education students. The club aims to bring together students to promote professional growth as well as to advocate for children and the Early Childhood profession.
"I really enjoyed my time at Trocaire. I love my new job! I went in for an assistant and I was promoted after 2 weeks to head teacher of both the am/pm classes. I believe that the education at Trocaire prepared me very well for a career in my field. Thank you to all my professors."

EDUCATION TRANSFER PROGRAM
ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY
Trocaire’s Associate in Arts allows students planning a career in teaching on either the elementary or secondary level to complete the first two years of a transfer program and earn an A.A. degree. (Students who are interested in teaching pre-school children are referred to the Early Childhood Education Program). Students should be aware that the requirements for transfer option vary and the standards for teacher education in New York State specify required course work. Therefore, the following courses are recommended only as a general guide. Students should consult with their academic advisor and the college transfer counselor to insure transferability to the four year college of their choice.
In addition to the Liberal Arts A.A. Program requirements, the following courses are suggested for transfer for education:
ED 201 Foundations of Education
CS 130 Introduction to Computers
PH 207 Marriage and the Family
SOC 101 Principles of Sociology
SP 101 Beginning Spanish
SP 102 Intermediate Spanish
