MU 100 Music Survey Course (1)

An survey of the fundamentals and development of art of music in Western Civilization. Emphasis will be given to how music relates, influences, enriches and dignifies our lives. Includes a segment on the healing aspects of music.  Lecture and listening. (Alternating Semesters)


MU 101 Music Appreciation (3)

Introduces the student to the elements and principles of music, and the lives, works, and historical settings of significant composers of the past. A segment on the healing aspects of music is also included. MU 100 recommended but not required. (Alternating Semesters)


Instrumental Techniques:  Provides basic instructional knowledge of various instruments from both the technical aspects of performance and music theory.  Students are required to develop a performing skill on the instrument consistent with the level of study.


MU 110 Instrumental Techniques:  Piano I (1)

Basic music theory and application to performance skills for the piano.  (Offered as needed)

MU 111 Instrumental Techniques:  Piano II (1)

Intermediate level theory and application to performance skills for the piano.  (Offered as needed)


MU 299 Independent Study (3)

The study by a qualified student of a more advanced phase of music under the supervision of a member of the music faculty. Plans must be approved by the Dean of Liberal Arts. (Offered as needed)
