Trocaire Offers Two Healthcare Professional Development Programs

BUFFALO, N.Y. -  The Trocaire College Life Long Learning Office will soon begin its popular Perioperative Nursing and Fundamentals of Mammography courses.  These courses are geared for healthcare professionals.

The Fundamentals of Mammography course is specifically for sophomore/senior level radiologic technology students or Radiologic Technologist’s.  All aspects of mammography are covered including positioning, equipment operation, breast anatomy and physiology, as well as patient care.  This seven week course will be held on Wednesday evenings from 4:00 – 8:15 pm beginning September 14.

Most Registered Nursing graduates have not been exposed to the operating room during their basic nursing programs.  Trocaire’s Perioperative Nursing course is designed to give registered nurses a theoretical background and beginning aseptic practice skills for entry level positions in the operating room.

The course will combine forty-five hours of theory, laboratory classes and nineteen days of clinical practice with a preceptor at a hospital operating room.  Course content will include: orientation to the operating room environment; aseptic techniques; scrubbing, gowning and gloving skills; instrumentation; routine wound closure and supplies needed; circulating duties and patient care in the OR; and legal aspects of perioperative nursing.  This program will follow the AORN Standards of Practice and Competency statements.  Classes begin on Tuesday, September 20 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Contact Hal Kingsley at 716.827.4310 or e-mail to register or for questions.  Both classes will be held at Trocaire’s main campus at 360 Choate Avenue in South Buffalo.  Check for more information.
