Thomas P. Dee to Address Class of 2014

BUFFALO, N.Y. -  Trocaire College President Bassam M. Deeb announced that Thomas P. Dee, President, Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation (ECHDC), will address the May graduating class of 2014 as this year’s commencement speaker.  The commencement will be held on May 14 at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts.  Dee will address 259 graduates and their families and friends.

Thomas P. Dee, president of the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation since May 2009, is responsible for advancing ECHDC’s mission of revitalizing Western New York’s waterfront and restoring economic growth to Buffalo based on the region’s legacy of pride, urban significance and natural beauty.  Dee works tirelessly to fulfill the organizations guiding principles: accessibility, diverse use, design and financial payback.

“Trocaire College is privileged to have Thomas Dee as our Commencement speaker,” said President Deeb.  “He has been instrumental in shaping the future of our Western New York community – a community where the majority of our Trocaire graduates live and work.”

Before joining ECHDC, Dee was a principal at Cannon Design where he oversaw and was responsible for projects worldwide.  During his 28 year tenure at Cannon Design, Dee also supervised or was involved with many of Western New York’s most prominent public and private construction projects, including the Buffalo Federal Courthouse, the Erie County Public Safety Campus and the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport.

A native of Buffalo, Dee received a bachelor’s degree and an Executive Masters of Business Administration degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  A member of the Leadership Buffalo Class of 2003, he also served on the Darwin Martin House and Cannon Design Board of Directors.

Trocaire President Bassam M. Deeb, Ph.D., will confer Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees, as well as certificates of completion, to the Class of 2014.
