Sterile Processing & Distribution (SPD) Technician Program Offered

BUFFALO, N.Y. -  Are you interested in working with healthcare professionals in providing a behind-the-scenes role in surgical facilities and hospitals?  Trocaire’s Sterile Processing & Distribution program can provide the knowledge and qualifications you need.

The role of the sterile technician is to learn and perform all aspects of sterile processing & distribution functions with surgical instruments in a healthcare setting.  Develop skills necessary to properly disinfect, prepare, process, store and issue both sterile and non-sterile medical/surgical supplies and equipment for direct patient care.  Students will also learn to operate sterilizing units and monitor the effectiveness of the sterilization process as well as become familiar with the operating room environment and the principles of aseptic technique.  A hands-on clinical practicum experience in an area hospital is included to enhance your skills.

As a graduate of the program, you will be eligible for certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing & Distribution.  Employment opportunities include surgical centers, hospitals, clinics and physicians’ offices.
