Trocaire College President Bassam M. Deeb announced that Michael S. Taheri, a partner in the law firm of Taheri and Todoro, P.C., will address the December graduating class of 2013 as this year’s commencement speaker. The commencement will be held on December 15 at the University of Buffalo Center for the Arts.
Since 1988 Taheri has practiced law, primarily in the area of criminal defense, handling cases in both federal and state court. He has been listed in “The Best Lawyers of America,” a peer review guide to the legal profession. In addition, Taheri taught courses at the University of Buffalo School of Law until 2010.
As his interest in the Catholic faith continued to grow, Taheri began to explore how he and his wife could best use their time, talents and treasures to assist the poor. This exploration took them to St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy, located in Buffalo, NY, where they began to volunteer their time to help those in need of services.
Taheri presently serves as the director of Our Lady of Hope Child Services, an organization focused on serving young people in the community who may otherwise be ignored or marginalized by our society. He is responsible for assisting students with their academic goals and helping them develop life skills. Taheri has been instrumental in working with young people to help them achieve their educational goals at Trocaire College. He also coordinates internships for students with local businesses for professional training, assists with fundraising, organizes student field trips and teaches adults how to read. Taheri’s wife, Josette, who holds a master’s degree in nursing, helps provide basic care for infants and pre-school children.
In addition to their extended family at St. Luke’s, Taheri and his wife have two grown children. St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy includes 17 full-time missionaries, residents of the Mission and the students who attend Our Lady of Hope School and local high schools in the City of Buffalo.
