Border Receives 2012 Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Kathleen M. Border, Program Director of the Trocaire College Dietetic Technology Program, received the 2012 Outstanding Dietetics Educator Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The award is given in recognition of her achievements as a teacher, mentor and leader in dietetics education.
Border was nominated for the award by the Western New York Dietetic Association. Recommendation letters from students state, ”She has given me confidence and all the tools to move forward and succeed not only in school, but also in any future career I choose” and, “ learning from Kathy has been a pleasure because I know she has my best interests at heart and cares about my future.” The criteria included demonstrated innovative teaching skills and techniques, demonstrated mentoring as documented by letters from students, leadership, and community service.
The award was presented to Border at the Area 7 Dietetic Educators of Practitioners meeting in Albany in March. She will also be recognized at the New York State Dietetic Association annual meeting May 4-5 in Albany.
Border joined the Trocaire College faculty in 2009. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Plattsburg, participating in a dietetic internship at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She received her M.Ed. from Framingham State College and is currently taking courses at D’Youville College towards an Ed.D. in Health Policy/Health Education.
