BUFFALO, N.Y. - Trocaire College president Dr. Paul B. Hurley, Jr., along with Anthony Diina, Trocaire’s Inspire Hope capital campaign chair, unveiled the new “Trocaire Way” street sign. The City of Buffalo has allowed a portion of Choate Avenue to be designated as “Trocaire Way” – celebrating another milestone in Trocaire’s Inspire Hope capital campaign initiatives.
“Trocaire College has had a special place in South Buffalo for 50 years - in the hearts of the Sisters of Mercy and our thousands of alumni - and physically in a few locations around the block on Red Jacket Parkway and here on Choate Avenue,” stated President Hurley. “This is the first time we’ve named our street and it’s quite a thrill.”
At the same time in honor of Arbor Day, a ceremonial tree planting took place in the courtyard, symbolizing the college’s growth and commitment to its South Buffalo roots. Trocaire student Margaret Walsh-Terranova and Alumna Ann Marie Giangrosso turned over the first shovel of dirt. A flowering crabapple tree was donated by the WNY Nurserymen’s Association and Schichtel’s Nursery. Renovation of the college’s courtyard and adjoining inside space will begin this month as part of the Inspire Hope capital campaign.
Joining the college community in celebration were South District Councilmember Mickey Kearns, District 2 Legislator Tim Kennedy, and Bonnie Kane-Lockwood, Senior Field Representative for Congressman Brian Higgins and a Trocaire Alumna.
